MAE POS
MAE’s own point-of-sale system for Nigerian supermarkets — it runs on the shop’s own network with no internet needed, and sends every sale to the owner’s phone through the MAE Owner app.

01overview
Overview
MAE POS is a point-of-sale system MAE makes and licenses to supermarkets and shops in Nigeria. It runs on the shop’s own computers: one PC is the server, and the tills are browsers on the shop’s network. It covers selling, cash shifts, stock, customers on credit, reports and backups.
It comes in two editions, Basic and Pro, switched by a signed licence MAE issues for each shop and checked by the server. Alongside it, the MAE Owner phone app shows the owner every sale as it happens, today’s totals and each closed shift, from anywhere.
02challenge
The challenge
A shop can’t stop selling because the internet is down, so the till has to work without it. But owners who aren’t at the counter still want to know what is being sold, and whether the cash in the drawer adds up.
Nigerian supermarkets also sell in their own way: by the piece and by the carton, loose goods by weight from a scale label, and payment in cash, by transfer or by POS card.
03solution
The solution
MAE POS needs no internet at all. Each sale, void, refund and shift close is queued as part of the sale itself and sent to MAE Owner whenever the shop is online, so nothing is lost when the connection drops.
On the phone, the owner sees sales arrive, checks each closed shift against what was counted, and reads the day’s reports. The app is view only: nothing on it can change the shop.

How we built it
01
No internet needed
The whole system runs on the shop’s own network, with the database on the server PC only. It installs as Windows services, and each till runs full screen in Chrome.
02
Every sale on the owner’s phone
Sales, voids, refunds and shift closes are saved in the same step as the sale and sent every few seconds when the shop is online. After an outage they catch up, with one “new sales” notification.
03
Sells the way supermarkets do
Cartons and pieces, weighed items read from scale-label barcodes, wholesale prices, line discounts, and VAT included or excluded, with exemptions per product. Sales can be held and resumed at each till.
04
Cash under control
Shifts close blind, so the cashier counts before seeing the expected total. Voids, returns and discounts need a manager’s PIN, and every sensitive action goes in an audit log.
05
Works with the counter hardware
Receipt printers, a cash drawer per till, barcode label printers, an LED price display and a second screen facing the customer, all driven from the browser.
06
Stock, credit, reports and backups
Goods receiving, stock counts, transfers and an expiry list; customers on credit with limits; reports with Excel export; and backups to any USB drive, plus a daily one on the PC.
